Astronomy

Here are online astronomy resources the Newpapers in Education department has discovered. They are listed below – however, some sites may cover more than one area. If you know a site we don’t, feel free to contact us!
International Year of Astronomy
To commemorate the 400th anniversary of Galileo using a telescope, 2009 was named the International Year of Astronomy. Site includes a “You are Galileo” project – a worksheet that tells you how to make a simple telescope – and a discovery guide.
NASA
Classroom resources include an educator resource center locator, resources for your classroom, MathTrax, a computer application that teaches the “sights and sounds” of math, and brain bites – videos that answer some of the most commonly asked questions about living in space. Also profiles on people who work for NASA.
NASA Kids’ Club
NASA site geared toward children. Includes a Buzz Lightyear game and a now in space feature on current astronauts, along with photos.
